Top 10 Ugliest Dogs Ever

We all love our doggies, but the sad truth is, some of them truly do have a face only their owner could love! Some of these dogs actually were found in a homeless shelter and then became very famous once they won an ugly dog contest. It just goes to show you how being very ugly can sometimes lead to great things! Many of the ugly dogs are Chinese Crested dogs, which seems to be possibly the ugliest dog breed in existence. But a few of our dogs are of other breeds, too.

Below are some of the ugliest dogs we have ever seen.

1. Sam

Sam is probably the most famous ugly dog on our list. Sam has been all over the news on TV and magazines all around the world for his great ugliness. He’s so darned ugly he almost is cute, isn’t her? This is probably the ugliest dog ever, and he won many awards for this dubious distinction. Sam sort of was a bizarre cross between that Crypt-Keeper dude and a very ugly gremlin. This hideous dog was of a breed known as the Chinese Crested. He won the World’s Ugliest Dog Competition in California in 2005. He also won the same award two other times. There probably never was an uglier dog than Sam. He died in 2005 of cancer.

2. Munchkin

Munchkin is a highly decorated ugly dog. He has won a number of competitions for ugliest mutt. He has been on TV shows and featured in magazines world wide. The breed of this creature is a mystery. The vet calls the dog a Canardly, as in ‘you can hardly tell what she is.’ Munchkin snorts a lot as he walks around. This chubby guy needs a car dog ramp to get into most vehicles since he can’t get to high off the ground. He also has this strange, wiry hair around the neck that sticks out by itself. He is one of the more unusual looking ugly dogs on our list, but he is most definitely ugly. For sure.

3. Ug

Another ugly dog with a puss that only an owner could love. This 2 year-old is a half blind Pointer mix that was left in an animal shelter in the UK. Then he got lucky – he was named the ugliest dog in the UK and all of a sudden, tons of people wanted to give Ug a home. The lucky winner was a woman named April Parker, who is 36 years-old and has two children. She renamed Ug to Doug after adopting him.We think that the name Ug is more apt, but we guess it is up to the owner to name her ugly dog.

4. Miss Ellie

This ugly dog got first place in the World’s Ugliest Dog competition in California in 2009. He was 17 years old at the time. This ugly hound also is a Chinese Crested, like Sam, above. She was entered in another ugly dog contest in 2010, but he died before the competition took place.

5. Elwood

This hideous dog won the ugliest dog contest in California in 2007. He is a mix of Chinese Crested and Chihuahua. He won the blue ribbon in that year because he is truly one ugly dog! Elwood’s owner was very happy to win the prize, as well as the cash award of $1,000. The owner stated that the breeder of the dog had said that he intended to euthanize the dog at birth because he was simply too ugly to be sold.

6. Hubble

Look at the hideous mouth on this dog! Hubble was so ugly that he did not even have a house to live in when he won the ugliest dog contest in the UK. He was in a dog shelter in Leeds after the hound was left in the woods. He was thought to be around 8 years old when he won the award. His mouthful of very nasty, rotting teeth helped to set him apart. We can only hope that this poor dog ended up getting proper dental care after he won.

7. Rascal

Rascal has the bloodlines of a top ugly dog. His mother, grandmother and grandfather all were past winners of various ugly dog contests. The grandfather of Rascal actually was named Chi Chi, and he is noted in the Guiness Book of World Records for having won more ugly dog contests than any other dog in history. Rascal is hairless by birth and is covered in all sorts of ugly warts and spots. He also is a Chinese Crested dog.

8. Gus

Sometimes even when the odds are stacked against you, you can do great things. Gus had everything against him in 2008. He was missing a leg, an eye and had cancer through his body, but he won the Ugliest Dog contest in California that year. Gus was also a Chinese Crested who was nine years old. He was rescued from a bad home, and then he lost one of his legs to cancer, and his eye from a fight with a cat. Gus did not live very long after he won his award; he died only five months later, sadly.

9. Pabst

Pabst is fairly unique in our list because he is one of the few that was able to beat those very ugly and tough to beat Chinese Cresteds, who seem to be just destined to be the ugliest dogs on earth. Pabst won the 2009 Ugliest Dog contest in California, and he even managed to beat Miss Ellie. Pabst is a boxer mix and he was four when he won the big prize. He was named Pabst because his owner likened his face to the cheap, bitter taste of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer.

10. Princess Abby

Princess Abby is a strange Chihuahua with very twisted rear legs, a spine that is curved and an eye that always squints. Who would have ever thought that such strange physical deformities could lead to greatness? Well it happened in 2010, when he won the World’s Ugliest Dog contest in northern CA. This dog was rescued by its new owner from the Humane Society. Princess Abby had been abandoned on the street after being infested with ticks and fleas.
