Top 10 Harry Potter Tattoos

TT10 July 15, 2011 24

People get tattoos for various reasons.  Many people get a tattoo as a tribute to something or someone they love.  It’s a well-known fact that a whole lot of people love the Harry Potter books and movies.  So much, in fact, that a crazy amount of people out there have gotten Harry Potter tattoos.  So here is a list of the top 10 types of Harry Potter body art, in case you were considering getting your very own Harry Potter tattoo.  We’re actually going to show you way more than ten tattoos – we’re giving you the top ten categories, and then several tattoos within each category.  That way you see  more pictures.  You like pictures, right?

1. Harry Potter Character Tattoos

Whether you’re a fan of the dark side of J.K. Rowling’s stories, a Gryffindor at heart, or a big fan of Hedwig, Harry’s owl, here are some tattoos to inspire you.

dumbledore

Full back piece tattoo of Dumbledore?  Why not?

fawkes

Not overtly a Harry Potter tattoo, but if you know the stories you can imagine this tattoo is of Fawkes, Dumbledore’s trusty phoenix.

Hedwig in Cage

Beautifully done – Hedwig in a cage.

Some people like the meaner, more evil characters in Harry Potter -

bellatrix

The cool thing about getting a Bellatrix Lestrange tattoo is that you also end up with a Helena Bonham Carter tattoo.  Double bonus!  But, why get the most sadistically evil character in the whole series tattooed on you?

voldemort

or, why not go all the way and get a He Who Must Not Be Named tattoo?

In the end, however, it’s the good guys who win out, right?

dobby tattoo

A fantastically-executed Dobby tattoo – the Free Elf, and he saved Harry’s life to boot.

sirius

A Sirius Black tattoo.  And it’s a Gary Oldman tattoo, too!

2. Hogwarts Tattoos

If you wish Hogwarts really existed, and you have your house all picked out (because the Sorting Hat wouldn’t ever put you anywhere but the house you belong), you might choose to get a Harry Potter tattoo related to Hogwarts or one of the houses.

hogwarts

Very nice.

gryffindor

Too bad the photo is so small – this is a great-looking Gryffindor tattoo.

ravenclaw

Or maybe you’re more in tune with the intellectually-inclined Ravenclaws.

slytherin

Or, maybe you’re cunning like a Slytherin.

3. The Dark Mark Tatoo

There is another category for symbols related to Harry Potter, but the Dark Mark, with its insidious implications, deserves its own category.  Here are some examples of Dark Mark tattoos.

avada kedavra

Killing curse tattoo on the knees?

I don’t even like the Harry Potter movies or books, but the loyalty from fans and what they will put on their bodies relating to Harry Potter is impressive or insane?

    • Danielle November 8, 2011 at 1:20 pm -

      It’s Impressive.
I’m going to do it. HP is legend.

    • Lulwat February 7, 2012 at 7:56 pm -

      I can’t even question right?

Impressive. I get that some people might think it’s dumb or unnecessary, but Harry Potter is childhood to a lot of people out there. You know how people get Tweetie bird? Same thing.

  2. Christian Hollingsworth July 20, 2011 at 4:05 pm -

Well, JK Rowling can consider it an honor – she’s created culture.

  3. JD September 1, 2011 at 12:43 am -

Dell, some of them are crazy haha. But I really like the deathly hallows symbol tattoos… Me thinks this fan may have found his second tattoo.

  4. Phoenix September 1, 2011 at 1:07 pm -

I can see why you put the phoenix tattoo in the list anyway. It is remarkably pretty.

  14. Alice September 17, 2011 at 11:17 am -

Umbridge doesn’t put a curse on harry for the “I must not tell lies” thing, it’s a special quill that uses his blood.
I hate to be nitpicky, but get your facts straight.

    • BigOak September 19, 2011 at 6:10 am -

Alice, thanks for commenting! The quill that Umbridge made Harry use to write his lines was a blood quill – a dark magical object that magically took the blood from Harry’s hand to act as the ink on the parchment. One might assume that a blood quill is a quill cursed using the Dark Arts to perform this awful punishment. Sorry if the wording was misleading – and thanks for your attention to detail.

  18. Sydney Mechelle May 6, 2012 at 8:08 pm -

Im getting an HP scar on my ankle tomorrow. My mother told me it was stupid. I read Harry Potter the year it came out and I fell in love. The books immedietly caught me, and the movies were magical. I loved going to book and movie premires because i didnt have to hide my inner potter geekness.

I love Harry Potter, its been a part of my life since the idea came out. Im now 19, and still yell have my custom Harry Potter wand and all of the books. I will never forget how much it was a part of my life, so whats the harm of getting a tattoo of it?

  19. Rachel August 26, 2012 at 4:46 pm -

i’m only thirteen, but i might get one on the back of my shoulder when i’m 18. the harry potter books really changed my life. it would be a quote. maybe “Always.” i like that one :)
